2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Lets do a quick break down of this verse. What does God require of us, the people called by His name, which in this verse is referring to the Israelites but also applies to those that bear the name Christian?

Firstly to humble ourselves, ie admit that’s it’s too big for us, that we can’t do it on our own and that we need God’s help.

Secondly to seek His face and that’s something we need to do on a consistent basis, ie every day.

Thirdly turn from wickedness i.e sin. It sounds so strong when it’s put like that, but that’s how God views sin. We can’t expect God to listen and respond to us when we’re doing what we know is wrong.

God in turn will listen, forgive and if there is a corporate level of confession, which is the context of this verse, He will heal the land i.e make it productive and bless it.
